Brunswick Birds, is a local WA small business run by a family with a passion for poultry and for sustainability. We raise several different breeds of chickens for either meat production or for egg production and can supply healthy happy birds for those who are wanting them. 

 

Located in the picturesque Brunswick hills, in the Shire of Harvey W.A., our 99 acre property is along the top of the scarp near the Mornington State forest. We enjoy sharing it with our three children, five dogs, our poultry, cattle sheep and a range of endemic wildlife.

We raise several breeds of laying chooks for those wanting to keep hens for egg production in their own yards.  At various times we also raise broilers for meat consumption.  All of our birds start in our brooders, and once big enough they are moved to our poultry  paddocks where they are free to roam 24 hours a day.

Our birds are truely free ranging, able to roam 24hours a day in our specially fencced poultry paddocks. We provide quality feed, fresh water and shelters for protection from the elements and from predators. We also have two amazing guardian maremma dogs that are always on duty. These special dogs are essential in protecting our birds and are very much loved by our family.

We moved to 'Belle Vista' it in 2021 and the name, meaning 'beautiful view' or 'beautiful landscape' just fits so well with this place and what we want to do that we decided not to change.  We take the view that farming is for the long term, and that sustainable landcare and ecosystem management along with ethical animal husbandry is essential.

We are on a constant learning journey, grateful for advice from many experienced farmers and holistic land managment profecssions. We have a holistic approach to farm managment, and are using regenerative, biological farming principles to manage this land.  We rotationally graze our paddocks and have long and short term plans in place that consider not just our farm animals welfare but also the local ecosystem. We aim to build diversity here, to manage and improve these natural resources in ways that allow us to sustainably and ethically raise our farm animals, as well as improve habitat for the native wildlife that live or visit this area.

Live birds can be purchased directly from us, minimum of two birds at a time as they are social animals.  Please check with your local council regarding specific rules around poultry keeping as it does vary between areas. We are proud to support other local businesses as much as we can. Our chicks are supplied by WA Chicks. Our feed is sourced as from local south west suppliers and our birds are humanly processed at another local WA venue.

They can scratch around, dust bath, eat bugs and grass and do all things chook. We provide fresh water and a balanced feed so our birds are able to choose when, what and how much they eat and explore their space.

​

We run small flocks with low stocking densities, over ten times lower those permitted by the Australian standard for free range birds (2017). 

​

It still brings a smile to my face seeing our birds happy and free roaming out in their paddock and I hope that by looking at our photos, it does to yours too.
